Wally, 93

(3/3) “When I met my husband, I was working at an American club as a portrait artist in Berlin. We had Russians in our section of the city. I went to the American section and asked if they needed someone to draw portraits in 10 minute or less, and I was hired. It was nice because I could take food home to my parents. And that’s where I met my husband. He was part of American occupying forces. He came to the club one night and his buddy wanted to have his picture drawn. He came back the next day at 2 o’clock in the afternoon and then he came back every day after that. We were engaged in Germany and when we came over here [in 1947] we got married. I was married for 55 years. He passed away of Alzheimer’s in 2002.”

What is the best thing that’s happened in your life? “When I came to know the Lord because I was not a Christian until I was 29 years old. That changed my life and it gave me new hope and it took my fears away. It gave new meaning to my life and it also helped my marriage.”
