Maria Teresa, 83

“Last year, my daughter-in-law asked me if I would go to Nicaragua. My granddaughter goes to Notre Dame, where they have a Global Brigade. A lot of universities have it. When my granddaughter signed up for it, her mother, who is also a physician, she called me and asked me to go as an interpreter. It was so much fun. It was one week. Those kids worked so hard and they did so much. They established a temporary clinic in a remote area in the mountains. And it was neat. The nice thing for me was that I made people feel more at ease because I spoke the same way they did. It was a neat trip; it was really nice. I’m really glad that I said yes, I’ll go.”
