“I was born in Detroit. My parents were immigrants from Romania. Actually, in those times you traveled to places where you knew people. My mother knew people in Kansas and my father knew people in Ohio, and my parents got married in Kansas and then moved to Detroit. My father worked for Ford for two weeks and then quit. He hated it. After that he opened a grocery store. During WWII, I went to night school at Wayne State University while I worked for Packard Motors on the dynamometer testing of the engine that was in the PT boat. After that, I worked on the night shift that tested the Rolls Royce engine that was in the Mustangs fighters.”
